The Office of the Executive Mayor is the highest office in the Municipality, fully responsible for the provision of leadership and oversight. In performing the duties of Office, the Mayor oversees the provision of services to all Umzumbe communities in a sustainable manner, to ensure high achievement of Government’s developmental goals and objectives. The Mayor is also entitled to receive reports of all developmental duties from Committees of the Municipal Council and to forward these reports together with recommendations to the council.
As the leader and developmental custodian in the institution, the Executive Mayor of Umzumbe municipality has numerous development initiatives merely based in the office of the Mayor. Mayoral programmes intend to address priority needs in our communities also taking into account all applicable national and provincial development plan and priorities.
Mayoral Educational Programmes:
Dress a Child Campaign – The programme dresses more than 1000 pupils annually. Pupils who are coming from the less fortunate families are provided with school uniforms, as part of bridging inequality at the educational fraternity and encouraging them to pursuit education.
University Registration Fee Programme – In an attempt to develop the culture of education, Umzumbe has developed this highly impressive and successful educational programme to assist children with tertiary registration fees. Since its inception the programme has given university access to more than 3000 children of Umzumbe.

Umzumbe Local Municipality (KZ213) is one of the four local municipalities within the District of uGu (DC21). The Municipal boundary runs along the coast for a short strip between Mthwalume and Hibberdene and then balloons out into the hinterland for approximately 60 km.
