Umzumbe hosts the 14th Youth Summit at Karridene Hotel which is a 2-day session with the aim to discuss developmental plans for young people.
Delegates from all 20 wards, will be afforded the opportunity to engage in presentations from the Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of Sports & Recreation, Department of Labour, EDTEA, SEDA, Vodacom, ITHALA.
The delegates are to elect a new structure which will serve as the Youth Council for a period of 3 years. The summit will present resolutions which need to be implemented and monitored by the new Youth Council structure.
“We are cultivating an aggressive structure which will enforce all the needs of young people, a structure that will establish youth-driven programmes for the benefit of young people in all wards. We will continue to support developmental programmes, ” said the Acting Mayor: Cllr Londolo Zungu
In addition, Zungu pleaded with the delegates to also empower communities through social investment programmes.
The outgoing Youth Council chairperson, Mr Philani Mchunu conveyed ” young people must lead and learn to be led by the masses within their respective communities. Young people need to initiate developmental programmes apart from the projects planned by the municipality. ” He further thanked the youth forums for their continuous support and a good working relationship in his tenure.

Umzumbe Local Municipality (KZ213) is one of the four local municipalities within the District of uGu (DC21). The Municipal boundary runs along the coast for a short strip between Mthwalume and Hibberdene and then balloons out into the hinterland for approximately 60 km.
