His Worship the Mayor of Umzumbe Municipality, Cllr ST Gumede, officially handed over champion trophies to 5 youth who participated in the Oyama Cup Open Junior Champions, National Champ of Champs Karate Tournament. The event was held in Cape Town between the 26 and 27 October 2013. The Mayor said that it is good to see young people involving themselves in activities that keep them fit. “We would like to see this sport grow within Umzumbe,” said the Mayor.

Umzumbe Youth Manager, Mr Philani Zama said that he appreciates and recognize the work that they have done so far. “I would like also to encourage them to keep the Umzumbe flag flying high,” he said. Further saying, “As the youth development unit we are proud of the work they have done and they must continue to ‘fight’ and develop other champions.” “They must continue to promote this sport code to the whole of Umzumbe we going to support them,” he concluded.
