HIS Worship, the Mayor of Umzumbe, Councilor (Cllr) Sydney Gumede badged the Municipality’s high accolades to 2012 matric high achievers of Umzumbe. Top ten pupils from Umzumbe schools have received the awards from the Municipality as part of honouring their high achievements and encouraging this year’s (2013) matriculants to pass with flying colours.

The extravagant event which was coordinated by Umzumbe Municipality in collaboration with Department of Education and Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) was held on Friday, 18th January 2013, at Sibanini Community Hall, in Ward-10. The Mayor acknowledged all the individuals for their outstanding contributions in the academic sphere, and further encouraged them to work even harder at the Universities of their choice and come back to make a profound change in the lives of people of Umzumbe.

“Umzumbe Municipality is highly impressed by academic excellence, and we are certain you are going to make us proud at various Institutions of higher learning, thereby flying Umzumbe flag high. With those words I encourage all of you to dedicate yourselves to your studies, graduate and come back to plough that gained knowledge in developing people of Umzumbe, creating decent job opportunities and economic growth,” the Mayor said encouraging the future leaders.

The highest Matric achiever, Nombuso Nzuza (17) from kwaQoloqolo, matriculated with 7 distinctions at Mthwalume High School. Nzuza advised all younger people and the Matric Class of 2013 to sacrifice all and dedicate themselves to their studies.

“I urge all learners, particularly those in rural areas, to think beyond the challenges they encounter on daily bases. They must dream big, think the future, pull up their socks and study hardy. I know it’s not easy but they can make it happen,” diligent future doctor, Nzuza said.

Nzuza is the prospective University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Nelson Mandela School of Medicine student, where she is going to study Medicine and Surgery degree.
